About Us
Mother-daughter duo, Maggie and Andrea, have always been captivated by beautiful jewelry. The name Dorotea is a tribute to their late grandmother/great-grandmother, who loved filigree jewelry. Maggie and Andrea would visit Dorotea in her hometown of Carapegua, where they would hear stories of both Dorotea's childhood and of her watching the artisans create beautiful jewelry. This love of filigree jewelry has been passed down to subsequent generations. Not surprisingly, during their trips to Paraguay, one of the favorite past times of Maggie and Andrea was to visit the artisans in an attempt to find unique pieces to add to their own personal jewelry wardrobe. They were also fascinated by the romance of the creation of the jewelry, and by the stories the artisans told as they painstakingly spun silver into wearable objects of art. No sooner were the duo on a plane home, when the longing to be back in the village of their ancestors took hold of them. They realized that they needed to be more connected to the place where Dorotea lived. They thought what a better way to remember Dorotea, than to carry on her tradition of visiting the artisans, and work with them to bring affordable, timeless pieces of art to others. “We hope you enjoy them as much as we do” Maggie & Andrea.
